Your First Visit

Regular dental checkups are very important in maintaining good oral and overall health. Because new research has shown that there is a strong link between a healthy mouth and a healthy body, preventive dental care is essential for a high quality of life.

During your first visit with Dr. Padron in our Rockville, IL dental office, we’ll need you to complete a few insurance and health information forms to help us learn about you. This will help to make sure that we provide the best possible service. We recommend arriving approximately 15 minutes early for your first appointment to get this initial paperwork completed.

What to Expect During Your First Visit

Your first visit will consist of a series of exams and checks to make sure that your teeth and gums are in good health. You can expect the following during an appointment with us:

Oral examination. We often use an intraoral camera on a tiny, pen-shaped tool to look inside your mouth. It helps us easily detect any areas of concern or changes since your last visit.

  • Oral examination. We often use an intraoral camera on a tiny, pen-shaped tool to look inside your mouth. It helps us easily detect any areas of concern or changes since your last visit.
  • Oral cancer screening. We utilize a safe, painless tool to check for early warning signs of cancer in only about two minutes.
  • Get digital x-rays taken. This may not always take place at your appointment, but it helps us keep track of any changes in your tooth structure. Digital x-rays use only tiny amounts of radiation compared to traditional tooth x-rays.
  • Check for decay in the teeth. We can quickly and painlessly check each tooth individually for signs of decay.
  • Check for gum disease. We will evaluate the current health of your gums by checking for redness, tenderness, or bleeding.
  • Evaluate your bite. The upper and lower arches of your teeth should line up correctly in order to prevent problems with jaw, shoulder, or neck pain, or even migraines.
  • Assess the integrity of past dental work. If any previous dental work, such as fillings or crowns, have become damaged, we will replace it for you.
  • Discuss options for future care. You will always get a consultation on what needs to be done to obtain the best oral health. This includes treatment options as well as instructions on home care.

You will receive further information if any dental treatments are needed. If not, we’ll simply recommend making an appointment for your next checkup in six months’ time. Keeping regular dental appointments makes it easier to catch any dental problems that may develop before they can cause too much damage.
