Dental Sealants at Padron Dental in Rockford

Dental sealants are a dental treatment intended to prevent tooth decay. They are an incredibly thin plastic coating applied to the chewing surfaces of your molars or back teeth. We do so to add an additional protection.

Even if you diligently brush and floss daily, sometimes the effort is still not enough to completely clean all the surfaces of the teeth, especially the nooks, crannies, and fissures on the biting surfaces of the back teeth. These hard-to-clean, rough biting surfaces of the premolar and molar teeth are the perfect spaces for food particles to get stuck and develop damaging bacteria.  This can lead to plaque and tartar deposits, and ultimately, the development of teeth cavities.

Padron Dental believes that prevention is always much better than treatment. Therefore, we encourage the use of dental sealants to prevent cavities and decay, especially in the molar and premolar teeth that have deeper grooves and fissures.

The entire team at Padron Dental enjoy helping people in a field where they can apply knowledge, art, science, and beauty. The Benefits from Dental Sealants

At Padron Dental, we recommend dental sealants for:

  • Children – Dental sealants are most often used for children above six years of age, who have permanent molar and premolar teeth.
  • Baby Teeth – In some cases, where there are very deep grooves on the primary molar teeth, we may recommend dental sealants.
  • Adults – Occasionally, we may suggest dental sealants for adults who are at a higher risk of developing cavities and decay.

The conclusion is that anyone at any age can benefit from the application of a dental sealant.

The Purpose Behind Dental Sealants

Microscopic food particles can easily become trapped inside the deeper ridges on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. These areas can be incredibly difficult to clean no matter how hard you try. Especially if you are dealing with an impatient youngster. At Padron Dental we can help prevent food and plaque buildup by covering and sealing these ridges. By eliminating the areas for food to become trapped in, the risk for cavities is decreased. In fact, dental sealants on permanent molars reduces the risk of cavities by 80%.

The Dental Sealants Procedure

The application of dental sealants is a totally pain-free, very quick, and simply a straightforward procedure.  First our staff will clean your back teeth, the molars, and premolars, very well. Next, we place an acidic gel on the biting surfaces of those teeth. This acidic gel creates small, microscopic pores that will both prepare and enhance the bonding of the dental sealant gel onto the tooth’s surface. After only a few brief seconds, we will then wash away the gel and thoroughly dry the teeth.  Finally, we will apply the sealants, by simply brushing it, on the grooves of the biting surfaces of those back teeth and then harden the sealant by using a special blue light.

Your Child Will Not Mind Getting Dental Sealants

Your child will not mind receiving dental sealants. The process is so easy, quite fast, and not uncomfortable whatsoever. There is no invasive preparation, no high- speed drilling and the sealant itself does not cause any irritation or even smell funny. It is such an easy way to help protect and prevent cavities for active youngsters that sure love candy and sugary drinks.

Can You Even Feel the Dental Sealant on Your Teeth?

Padron Dental has found that our patients cannot even notice the sealant has been applied. You certainly cannot see the sealant because it is completely clear. If you run your tongue across those biting surfaces, you may be able to feel a slight difference because they are smoother, but there is absolutely no discomfort in any way. Your teeth may feel as they do after you have them cleaned at your six-month check-up.

The Life Expectancy of Dental Sealants

With proper care, you can expect the sealants to protect your teeth from cavities for as long as 5 to 10 years. Although dental sealants are an excellent option for helping with the prevention of cavities, they are not a substitute for your routine oral hygiene like brushing and flossing. Remember, the sealant was only placed on the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The health industry strongly suggests that we brush our teeth twice a day for two minutes each time and to compliment that effort with flossing at least once a day. This simple preventative good habit keeps the buildup of damaging plaque in check. It is also suggested that you schedule preventative dental examinations twice a year with Padron Dental to continue to allow us to monitor the condition of your teeth and gums. With the addition of a dental sealant, you have just bought yourself, or your youngster, another level of protection. That is all you need for enjoying perfect dental health.
